I agree - Tillie Walden is incredibly talented, and Spinning was such a powerful memoir, so uniquely told.

Sue
2022 Big Book Summer ChallengeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2890504570198680768.post-3588683045844018262022-05-30T12:48:02.334-07:002022-05-30T12:48:02.334-07:00I'm so glad you enjoyed this book, Helen! I imagine seeing how other parents maybe didn't give their kids the kind of autonomy that you gave your daughter definitely made this book resonate more. I appreciate your wise thoughts on this—I'm so sorry you saw firsthand how parents can behave towards their children when it comes to sports, and I can't even imagine what it would be like for a child to have their parents pull them from a sport because they weren't winning enough. I'm glad the book sounds good to you, and I really appreciate you stopping by!Max @ Completely Full Bookshelfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04466405075405012116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2890504570198680768.post-56713525874874822822022-05-30T08:15:16.617-07:002022-05-30T08:15:16.617-07:00I read this one a while ago and thought it was wel...I read this one a while ago and thought it was well done. Much has come out certainly about the gymnastics horrors, but aside from them, many have experienced other kinds of bullying & pressure from both coaches & parents. My earliest memory with my children is parents yelling at their young children, early grade school, in soccer matches. One family finally left the team because they weren't winning enough. Sports doesn't always bring out the best in people. Thanks for sharing this book, new to me! Enjoy your day!Linda Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14983144542632353870noreply@blogger.com
