And I haven't heard much about The Blue House—I had just seen a review a while back that made me want to read it! I know people who had a bad time with the second dose, but I was fine with it, and I haven't heard bad things about the booster, but it definitely didn't sit super-well with me. I hope you get a chance to get the booster soon if you haven't already, and I'm glad my mention of those issues worked for you as well. And I agree, that statistic is heartbreaking—it's horrifying that politicians and important people hear that number and don't automatically think that's a MAJOR crisis. I appreciate people like you who are appropriately concerned and who hold attitudes that can help improve things! They are all seriously beautiful books....Of course! They are all seriously beautiful books. And I didn't realize you had also read My Two Border Towns—the final scene is a painful one and a powerful one for all the reasons you describe. And the numbers are seriously painful—I try not to dig super-deep into the news on this blog because it's so awful, but I think it's eye-opening that the plain statistics should be cause for such alarm, and yet no one is doing anything. I mean, it's not even arguable that that's a crisis! I certainly hope for the safety of your students (and all transgender people) as well. And I didn't even realize the trial of Arbery's killers is happening right now (why have I not seen that...?), so thank you for informing me! Thanks so much for joining in on the painful conversation of news and the exciting conversation of books, Linda, and happy Thanksgiving!Max @ Completely Full Bookshelfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04466405075405012116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2890504570198680768.post-49628066947313180192021-11-22T13:54:45.740-08:002021-11-22T13:54:45.740-08:00The Most Beautiful Thing Sounds gorgeous. Each one holds such beauty in words & in the illustrations. In the "My Border Towns" that final scene when the father & son brought things to the family waiting at the border was terrible sad. To help was wonderful but to have to leave them behind every time must be heartbreaking. I loved the others, too, as you read. As for your first words, I did see the numbers yesterday on Transgender Day of Remembrance, also heartbreaking & frightening. I have two former students who are transgender & I hope for their safety. And, I heard a discussion about the Rittenhouse trial judge this am on NPR. They noted so many of his "seeming" transgressions. I wonder if he will be disciplined. Now we wait for the Arbery conclusion. Hard news. Thanks for the book memories & have a lovely Thanksgiving!Linda Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14983144542632353870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2890504570198680768.post-9197057084406110682021-11-22T06:34:30.679-08:002021-11-22T06:34:30.679-08:00They're definitely all great reads!
