He was very thought provoking and I would recommend that as well. A very emotional book and he is much the same as a speaker. I will be looking for that one as well. I also really enjoyed The Perks of Being a Wallflower too. The people that read and write in these spaces could certainly make a great list of character driven, YA tearjerkers that are somehow uplifting such as the two you have here. I nominate The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04960920764884687750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2890504570198680768.post-43940470306651235352021-05-28T14:29:19.000-07:002021-05-28T14:29:19.000-07:00This is a book I've known about but have never...This is a book I've known about but have never read it. And I love that you got to listen to it as an audiobook with your brother and dissect it together—that sounds like such a wonderful way to enjoy such a wonderful book!

And yes, I did have a chance to see the movie of The Perks of Being a Wallflower—it is utterly perfect! The author of the book, Stephen Chbosky, has actually spent most of his career as a filmmaker, so he actually wrote AND directed the movie adaptation. It is really faithful to the book, it is visually gorgeous, the acting is great—if you liked the book, it is absolutely worth watching! I really hope you get a chance to try this one—I have mixed feelings about YA, but I feel like this one sidesteps a lot of the typical YA clichés and, in doing so, gives a much more realistic picture of actual young-adult life! I read that book with my eyes and then discovered it as an audiobook. I agree that it is a profound in its own way as Aristotle and Dante. My brother and I listened to that while on a road trip. We took turns stopping the book and talking about what was going on. I cried messy tears in both of these books. Have you seen The Perks of Being a Wallflower movie?
